I was in the studio with Richie Havens, the Thursday night before Woodstock. We were together in the studio 8-10 hours a day Mon-Thursday, for years. The Weekend of Woodstock was coming up I said to Richie, should I go with you to this Bethel thing, Exposition, Woodstock thing? (it actually wasn’t called Woodstock yet) People said something was brewing, but I didn’t usually go with Richie to his live gigs. I told him I had a chance to hang for the weekend with a girlfriend. Richie said “Stay Home with you girlfriend, its going to be a muddy zoo”, and a few other things that will remain personal.
I missed Woodstock 1969, but I ended up marrying her.
